My Monthly Update!!!

Sorry I haven't posted anything, or done anything, having to do with Ingus 9 yet. I've been working hard on my Senior Studio art project, which is huge. I really hope to crack down on this episode during Spring Break. The script is basically done. I'm going back through and fixing jokes, but for the most part, it's done. As for audio, I just got a new computer and forgot to get a sound card, so we can't record until I get that. But whatever.

I haven't done anything in two months! I'm rewriting Ingus 9 and 10 to be the best I can make them. However, those episodes will be out quite a while from now. I hope to make a 24-hour flash this weekend or something. Look out for that!

Yo homies! I'm really quite lazy. Senior year of highschool started for me, so I've been doing a lot of crap for my AP classes and haven't had a lot of time to do work on Ingus. Nonetheless, I've had chances and decided to download massive amounts of pornography instead. But now I'm back onto it. I've done maybe 35 more seconds of the episode, which isn't a ton, but 20 seconds of that was for a new, hilarious sequence we decided to throw in there. That'll probably happen a few times more on this episode. I feel it'll need some of it, considering this script isn't extremely hilarious or dynamic.

In future news, Episode 9, Christmas Special, and Episode 10 have been written! Episode 9 is on the shorter side, but will be reletively quicker to make (it's going to kind of have to be a November release). The Christmas episode is of average length, and will have to be done by Christmas, so its deadline is sealed. Episode 10 is hilarious. There's a lot of dialogue, but it's good stuff. That'll probably be out in January. Look forward to that!

Oh, and just to prove that I haven't been completely lazy through September, here's a little snack, a 24-hour flash I made inspired by my friend Levi Tarr.

Super Extreme Slowage!!!

Okay, so in the past several weeks, I've began and not finished two flash cartoons unrelated to Ingus. Both of them, I got pretty deep into, but then just stopped. So that minute of Ingus I had done back in August... is still the entirety of Ingus 8. As soon as I get back into the feel of school (and complete some projects I was supposed to with my summertime for school) I should be able to cover big blocks of Ingus and get it out there. I want to say late September is when I'll be done -- because it's definately enough time to actually finish Ingus 8 -- but I'm not so sure I'll actually get my ass in gear.

Those two cartoons I started I hope to finish. They were both at the time 24-hour flash cartoons, but it's obviously been more than that. However, I still may count them as such, because I got about 7 or so hours into each of them, and it'll take less than 8 hours to finish them, and I could do that in one weekend day. Whatever their future is to become, wish me luck.

Well, I've completed a whole minute of the new episode. I actually did about 3 days ago, but I've been hanging out at my friend's house, so I haven't had a chance to update any. The minute I have is pretty funny and looks great and all its required audio is collected and in place. I'm hoping that I'll be on my way to completing another minute of it by the end of this week, but I've got a lot of stuff to do in preparation for school, so I don't know what's going to happen until then.

Anyway, I just thought I'd share this and keep you updated. Now let me get back to work.

Scripts

Looks like I'm going to have my hands full for a while. I've finished the script for what I hope to be the next 24 hour flash. I've yet to contact J-Rad, so he hasn't seen it yet. I promise it'll be better that "Crows in the Cornfield", which was just a half assed version of a good script I wrote. We had to cut it down so it would be doable in 24 hours. I'm pooling all my creativity into making good scripts.

EDIT BY JARED: To clarify the "crow in the cornfield" situation, the script written was funny and each bit was a humorous little scene, but the first immediate giggle of what the crows they were talking about actually were was lost with how long winded the original script was. I admit I cut it down a bit too much, but it was agreed before we started that it was "good enough" for a '24-hour flash' project. Unfortunately, most of the time put into the flash consisted mainly of the simple-yet-difficult animations of the crows, which meant we had less time to actually make the lead-up to the crows feel right. That's mostly my fault, but I still felt it was funny. By Newgrounds standards, however, if someone isn't screaming comically as a crow is pecking their eye out and ejactulating on their chest, it's not funny. So, yeah that flopped. I liked it, though. One of the very few who did...

Anyway, since Seth's scripts are usually quite a bit more outlandish than my own, I'm sure his latest 24-hour flash script will be hilarious.

More of Episode 8!

Okay, so I'm finally back to working on Ingus: Episode 8. I hope to have it done by late September, but I get back to school then, so you never know. The reason I almost wasn't able to work on Ingus -- or anything original of my own for that matter -- was that I had been hired by Bryan Waterman ( of the series Waterman) to produce two new episodes of his highly successful series; 9 by December, and 10 by March. I obviously jumped onto the project. Sounded like an easy and fun job. However, I quickly realized that his 15 minute cartoon was going to require some intense effort and be some of the most difficult stuff I'd ever have to produce in flash. In respect to Mr. Waterman, I won't give away any of his jokes, but one of his scenes required a complete 360 degree pivot around two characters with several individually animated objects in the foreground and background. Though I was going to be paid for this project, the intense amount of effort, sheer length, timeframe for production, and time not making my own cartoons, all on top of the fact that I was starting my most important and difficult year of school just weeks ahead made it all not worth it and impossible. I had to bail out on that job, but I'll still be able to make Ingus each month, as long as I work my bottom off. So, Ingus is back... even though you never knew it was gone. Above is a screenshot of Jesse Tompkins (a name that any of you who were able to see easily past my Gaussian blur are familiar with from my last screen shot) standing in the woods afront Ingus' house. I haven't finished drawing Ingus' house, but it's basically a newer version of his old house (as seen in the beginning of episode 4). Sorry this screenshot is bland, but it's all I have that doesn't give anything away that's important. More updates coming soon.

Well, I've got hardly anything done on Episode 8. All the voices are done, but not much else. What you can see here is all I have. As you can see in the symbol library I've only got a couple graphics (which are just the different mouths of this character). I blurred out anything spoiler-esque stuff, but I'm sure you can still read most of it through the Gaussian blur. Oh well, no big deal.

Episodes 8-10

In my "Current Future of Ingus" post, I was talking about the episodes I was considering for the future episodes. In my last post, I said I had decided on the salesman episode and would probably do the origin story for 9 or 10. Well, I lied. Episode 8 is still going to be the salesman episode, but 9 and 10 will be different. I'm going to try to explain what's going to be going down with episodes 9 and 10 (remember, this is subject to change because I don't really plan ahead often, and I may not follow my mouth).

Episode 9 will be a script of Seth's that I lost among piles of Word Documents I have. It was written around the time of Episode 2 and 3, so it wasn't super funny all the way through. It had some problems that the early episodes had. However, it also had what the newer episodes have been missing. So I rewrote it and kept the charm while tossing the weak stuff. I think it's pretty funny now, and will hopefully be a nice gulp of yummy old Ingus while still having what makes the new ones their own. That will be hopefully out in September.

Episode 10 is another script I wrote way back that I found. I was only about 1/3 done with it, but it was my first attempt at being a longer episode. The 1/3 written is pretty funny, but not something that I stuffed with silly dialog. It was intended to have a plot (not necessarily in the sense that Episode 7 had) and I'll hold true to that. I'm still writing that one. It will be long, and I'll use my one extra month of time I have until the end of the year to make that one (Ep. 8 should be out in August, 9 in hopefully September, 10 I'll shoot for October, but most likely in November, and then the Christmas Special in December... duh).

The Christmas Special is being written by Seth. I don't know what's going on in that one or how far along it is. I'm sure he'll write it last-minute, but that'll be fine.

Anyway, there's a slightly more in-depth spoiler-free forecast of Ingus. It will (fortunately or unfortunately, depending on what you think) take up the rest of my year. I'll post some pictures or something from Episode 8 once I get them. I haven't been working too hard, but I plan to. Expect some screens early August.

Episode 8 Scripted!

Okay, so I've decided on the next episode and have scripted it and am about 70% done with the voices (I need to record one of my two characters still). I've already recorded all of Ingus' dialog and Bear's (he'll barely be in this one). I haven't designed the lead new character yet, but I hope it comes to me. I'm going to be hard at work on this one. It's about 4 pages (which is about as many as most of the longer episodes) but will probably run a bit shorter. I was really hoping to write like 5 minutes, but it's probably closer to 2 minutes. It may sound short, but it won't go by too fast. Expect this one out sometime next month. Also, expect Ingus from me probably the whole rest of the year (I've stated earlier that it's my goal to get to ep. 10 and a Christmas one by December of this year).

Anyway, for now, keep reading (even though no one does) to learn more about the episodes as they come.

Current Future of Ingus

Okay, so I'm currently planning three more official episodes and one Christmas special by the end of the year, hopefully more. I don't know, though. Up to episode 10 and a Christmas special is my 2006 goal. That's five months to make four episodes, basically. An episode takes about a month to complete generally, but with what happened on Episode 7 and the fact that I currently have no scripts may be a problem (and since the last few scripts have been weak and the series requires redemption, these cannot be rushed ones) . I have two ideas I'm juggling in my head. One of them would be a fairly difficult one (meaning it would take time) and the other is only doable if I can get another animator I'm a big fan of (not Knox, that was Ep. 6) to do dialog for. The idea isn't reliant on them, but they're the most fitting for the voice. I still may be doing that episode, even if they can't, but it would certainly be in homage to them.

Here's my ideas (I want to do both of them eventually, just a matter of which is next):
- A true origin story of Ingus. A narrated tale of his life and transformation into the Ingus he is today. Most likely in a very different storytelling format, rather than how the episodes currently work. If I don't do this for Ep. 8, I may do it for 10 as being a "Season Finale Special" or some shit.
- A door-to-door salesman finds Ingus' door, and gleefully refuses to go away, despite the obviously insane actions Ingus does. This would be a fairly traditional episode in that it wouldn't really go anywhere, but the comedy would be pulled more from the salesman than Ingus. I've only brainstormed for this one, but I feel the script could come together faster and would be completed quicker than the other one (which has been rough-draft scripted, but would be a difficult episode).

So, that's about as much as I have for upcoming episodes. I'm really not working in flash on anything right now, which is terrible. I have so much free time I could be using doing something. Oh well.

Oh, I almost forgot. In January, I really want to start a "mini-series" for NG with Ingus. It wouldn't be the future of Ingus, but a series special, per say. One that would have a true storyline with layered characters and so forth. Once that is finished (which would probably take the better half of a year), I'd then probably return to making episodes. I've written a few rough-drafts of this storyline and it's pretty damn long (realistically about 60 minutes all together, I'd say). I really hope I can get around to making it. I originally planned it for a summer-long project, but that's clearly not happening. Wish me luck!

Ingus 7, Finally

The time I expected to be using finishing up Ingus 7 was stolen from me! So I didn't get the chance to complete the final scenes. It will be done in the early part of July. I may also have another flash out in July as well. Since I did not have sufficient time to finish Episode 7, I decided to make a 24-hour flash with Seth Forsman (voice and co-writer of Ingus) called The Orange Man. Watch it now! It's a great flash. I'd say our best 24-hour flash yet.

More Rewriting

We had pretty much decided on and locked down the final act of Ingus 7, until we actually got there. There's some jokes to be had in it, some that I'd like to recycle for the future, but it was just too long, too boring, and too much time for such a small payoff. So, Seth and I decided on a new ending that isn't very long, may upset a few fans, and may make the episode feel a little rushed. But I don't care. It's still funny, and it's also saving me a lot of useless work. So, if you have a problem with the ending, it'd have probably been better in your opinion to have the alternate ending. I may still make the alternat ending in the future. But for now, we're going with the rewrite. The video should be (I'll say WILL be) done by the end of June.

Episode 7 and CafePress

I don't know what to say. I'm really frickin' lazy. I haven't really finished anymore of Episode 7 since my last post. I'm just so damned bored of animating one of the characters. I won't give anything away, but I'll just say that it looks like a really simple character to animate, but is actually the most time consuming thing in the Ingus series ever. This character will never show up in another episode ever again.

Aside from no news on Ingus: Episode 7, I updated my crappy CafePress store. I added like two things, and then got lazy. As of yet, there are no Ingus shirts with Ingus actually on them. Sorry. I'm almost to what I call Act 3 (because the "story" is sort of in three sections, but not true acts like in films or plays). I'm in the thick of Junior Finals this and next week, so I probably won't get anything done then. Damn, this is takign forever. I had started this over two months ago and, due to laziness and higher speed internet, I've been tackling this thing like a sloth. Oh well. Once school is out for the summer, I have nothing to worry about. Expect Episode 7 by the end of June. The screenshot above is not very fantastic and/or funny, but that's mostly because I dion't want to ruin any visual gags or spoil the story with pictures. This one is spoiler-free, so there. I'll post more pictures from Act 3 when I get there.

Ingus 7, Scene 1 is finished!

Well, sort of. I intended to have Ingus 7 done sooner, but it obviously isn't working out that way. I recently bumped up my internet, so I've been doing solely that since then. I'm kind of getting back to work. I've only finished scene 1. By that, I don't mean the way in which Flash sets it up. If by that, I have probably 11 scenes finished. Basically, I'm about 1/4th through the flash. The rest gets harder, so it'll be pretty tough. Once I get past the stuff that makes it hard, though, it'll be really easy to finish. I just hope to finish it in the next 15 days! It's scary to see how small that number is. Put a 10-page Research Paper on Moby-Dick, a Pregnant Rat Disection lab, WSU Cadaver field trip, and a 5-page essay on Abortion, and I've got hell. Wish me luck!

Episode 7 script revised...

I recently uploaded to NG PSP Elephants, which Forsman and I made in less than 24 hours. I wanted to get something out in April. So, Episode 7 is going to have to be done by May. I resripted some stuff, which means we'll need to go back and re-record. I've designed most of characters (there'll be 9 characters total; 5 of them are new characters) for the episode. It's going to be a bit different from the other episodes. This will be more like an episode of something normal. I'll see how it goes with the fans. Anyway, it'll be hard to make, so expect it probably late May.

I just revised Seth's Ingus 7 script, and it's practically ready for recording. I just need him to revise my revisions, then we'll fix some more together, then start to make it. Fans of Ingus: Episode 2 will probably like this a lot. I threw in some new stuff and tossed some old stuff to make it so that fans of 5 and 6 will like it a lot too. It's kind of a mix of the two styles, which is where I think Ingus should be. More on Episode 7 later!

Ingus: Episode 7 Script Ready!

Seth Forsman (voice of Ingus, co-writer) got the script out for episode 7. This is the first script by him since, I believe, the Halloween episode. I'm not sure if he wrote Episode 5 or not. Anyway, I may make it this month. I may hold off to release it in May. I've done only Ingus this entire year. I need a hiatus. More on it later.

My friend is helping me a little with some other aspects of it that I need to do before I release it. It's about 90% animated. I'll be finishing that probably tomorrow or the next day. Episode 6 almost finished!

Ingus: Episode 6 is nearly completed! It's a pretty short one, but also pretty funny. I just got that last audio recordings from Knox for it, so I'll animated to them over the next few days, then finish the sound effects, and I'll be done! I'm roughly 80+% done. I hope the fans will be able to cope with the new head design of Ingus. A lot of people seemed to not like it in Episode 5, but Ep. 5 was also the second highest scoring episode of the series, so I don't know. This image is Knox aka Robert Benfer in action in the new episode of Ingus. Check back often for more updates pertaining to Ingus, or other works by Jared Johnson or BLP.
